The Inner Poet

I know this is late, so I feel kind of bad. on Friday October 11, Lowell high school had its annual jack Kerouac contest and I had just heard it was coming up. I remembered last years contest and I was digging it. people expressing themselves through spoken word and there were people ready to listen and show support. The cash rewards of $250, $150, and $100 that were given would be a plus. This was something that I wanted to be apart of. on Thursday, I asked my teacher for the permission and the prompts that we needed to follow. I looked and saw that I needed 2 poems by Monday. Ain't that stressful?

On Sunday night (I slack pretty hard) I managed to bang out the 2 poems by 5a.m. and handed them in. So now Friday came I and was getting pumped! Until I realized that a total of about 46-48 people had entered as well. (DAAYUM!) The first round had everyone say there 1st entry to make it to top 10. the 2nd round was to figure out the top 3. I remember checking the clock and around 10 o' clock that I went in and showed the room what was up my sleeve. I was nervous, but I said what I wanted to say and bam! the crowd roared. That feeling was pretty amazing and I felt good about myself. Everyone kept quoting me too, since I repeated 3 words over and over. That was like a top 10 moment in my high school career.

The round ended and I managed to get top 10. too bad my 2nd entry was complete garbage so I knew that I wasn't going to win. On the other hand, I did manage to get a book mark and a Barnes and Nobles gift card for like, 15 bucks. That day went by pretty quick, but not as quick as my heartbeat when I went up there. The inner poet in me might actually come out one day. Until then, the rest of my senior year comes first!

  1. I never knew you're a poet! Congratz on making the top 10, that is amazing! Btw, if you don't have any need for your gift card, I'm a big reader and there's a book I want ;)

  5. I think everyone has an inner poet in them, they just have to discover it for themselves when the time comes. But great job man!
